Aberystwyth Conservative Future
So much for the towns officer job:
Oh well it was going so well, nomination form signed, pop home for the manifesto and pick up my seminar stuff. OH well I nod off after research for essay last night, doh wake up 1/4 to 3 and phone union 2.55 saying on my way up from town, get there 3.20 due tio traffic and hand in but have to wait.
Elections do the right thing and rule I can't stand. After some thought I think fine.
Here is my manifesto as submitted, in case there are other candidates whose names weren't disclosed at theat meeting:
If elected for Towns Officer I would:
Liase with Town Council re students concerns
(lighting, refuse, phone masts)
Work with res services and SACC to create a student contract checking department similar to the translation service within the Guild.
Campaign on resolving the West Lothian Question and parity with Scotland
To this I was going to add the following in my speech:
Seek the redevelopment of the Boars Head pub in Aberystwyth into a non alcoholic venue and key worker housing above the opublic workers site. The sites been the pits of Aber but with the Glen now being a 'normal hours pub and the rising population due to Alex Hall, this is an option worth pursuing.
Improve footpaths and lighting on campus to town. I did a lighting survey on this years ago and womens officers have been complaining and campaigning for years.
Ah well I guess Its back to the books, essay for tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about this James,
But things like that happen for a reason, in time it will become clear.
Again apologies over not nominating you, but it was one of those situations that I did not want to chose one cause over another and hence decided to stay neutral.
You had some very positive ideas for the town. We can only hope that whoever takes up the position will also be putting forward as decent an agenda as yours.

I am writing a formal letter of protest today however as I told elections ctte and the President personally I was going to have an evening to think about it and they've awarded the post prior to checking whether I am appealing in person or vai email according to the one exec (ethnic minorities officer). Hence if the exec has been lied too I must stand up and be counted.
1) the Guild manager was not present at said meeting.
2) The president was occupied from 3.00 - 3.30 checking with whom?
3)I was kept waiting downstairs by a member of steering whose judgement is ?
4) By this time exec were told of elections decision and I was told that the other guy was awarded it and I wish to give Mustaffa a clear run and will serve on his helpers (as a town resident) to achieve my manifesto and his if he had one at the time.
5) Its typical of an exec that can't sort out town, Llanbadarn and its own structure, let alone the order of a GM when the constitutional motion being discussed was being done so inquorate wasting everybodies time and preventing the discussion of policy motions that could have been passed (such as the street lighting one).
The problem with sabb politics is cause the salarys too low they are ideologues or in other places and in the past crooks (that waits till graduation). At Aber in the 1970s the Courier had 'scholarship ads' from of all people the Chinese Communists, wonder whose doing it today and what their beef is...
The reason its just a protest at process rather than result is if your gonna do a Bush Jnr, make it for a worthwhile post with some career prospects peeps (or prospective ones if your into PR / Politics , plus I've done my non sabb duty in the past (my version of events will be here on this site over Xmas), its a sabbship candidature in February or nought.
This year CF will strike the elections process and get elected en force. If for no other reason that when I was on elections we allowed a form going in late for the cross campus elections due to timetable commitments and cause of going their I missed a seminar I went home to prep for that as well, its my dept guidleines first.
I hereby volunteer for the position of CF election agent.

James I like the positive attitude regarding next years elections and I think its about time the guild swung back to the Conservatives. Having been here a few years James no doubt you are the man for getting us back in control.
