Aberystwyth Conservative Future
Ok I don't post that often but I thought I'd mention this.
At present there is an attack by one democracy on a state moving towards democracy. I am refferring to Israel and Lebanon.
Granted Hizbollah are terrorists but also note that they are incoalition with moderates and seeking to remove Syrian influence from politics in that country.
I hope the operation is swift and involves no more lebanese land occuaption by Israel as Lebanon still wants qeema fields back according to the BBC news website. Military spurs for a new government may be understandable, another chatila massacre would not be.

The thing is that they pulled back to the blue line under Barak.
Now Hizbollah have the border area but with a coalition looking for peace this is an argh situation.
The statement last night from their (Hizbollahs) leader that they would give Israel a fight is worrying.
The solution is only negotiation.

Excuse me?
Hizbollah seek nothing less than the destruction of Israel. Would you "negotiate" with someone who by their own confession would not accept any compromise less than your head on a spike? I may be being rather extreme here, I don't know, but if that was my situation my first reaction would probably not be "lets talk over crumpets"

what do you base this on?
The Lebanese moderates had them in a government with them, inclusion is possible as a way of reducing tension.
This is probably academic given that the conflict has started but can a democratic lebanese government survive this?
Is there a need for peacekeepers on the Hizbollah territory in the S of the country and is this going to the UN? Given the rocket attacks and kidnapping I'd think its possible. But thats a personal opinion.
